ode to the warrior

the dream of the warrior, to leave his sword sheathed,
but the waking day will force his hand,
the dream of the warrior, to put down his shield,
but the waking day will stake his land,

the dream of the warrior, to hold close his wife,
but waking day will threaten her breath,
the dream of the warrior, to learn much of life,
but the waking day is a teacher of death,

the dream of the warrior thus, must seem,
to die, to sleep, perchance to dream,
